Jensen Stinar scored the game-winning goal with 1:06 remaining in overtime to give the Crookston Pirates girls hockey team a 3-2 win over defending North Dakota state champion Legacy/Bismarck Sabers Saturday (Nov. 22) at the Crookston Sports Center.
 
The win was the first of the 2025-26 season for the Pirates, who were 0-4 with losses to Thief River Falls, Fort Frances, East Grand Forks and Moorhead.
 
Emma LaPlante got the scoring started for the Pirates with an unassisted goal 6:26 into the opening period. Legacy/Bismarck’s Madison Flemmer tied the game with a goal in the final two minutes of the first period.
 
The Pirates regained the lead in the second period, with LaPlante scoring with just under 12 minutes remaining.
 
The Sabers answered once again, this time with a goal by Kylie Booke, to tie the game.
 
The score remained knotted for the final 10:46 of regulation and almost six minutes of overtime until Stinar scored the game-winner.  
Adley Vigness and LaPlante were credited with assists for the Pirates.
 
The Pirates held a slim 29-26 edge in shots on goal. Madilyn Abrams finished with 23 saves in the win for the Pirates.  

Pirates shut out by Spuds
Moorhead held Crookston to just three shots on goal in a 4-0 shutout win by the Spuds over the Pirates Thursday night (Nov. 20) at the Crookston Sports Center.

Scoring goals for the Spuds were Shay Benson (2), Lola Klein and Anna Bjorkman, with Samantha Stage, Kinsley Summers, Katelin Shirly, Lucey Wilson, Anna Bjorkman and Haylee Melquist adding assists.

Crookston goaltender Madilyn Abrams kept the Pirates in the game with 35 saves. Alyssa Jacobsen turned away all three shots on goal she faced to pick up the shutout for the Spuds.
